First Meeting
26 April 2007

Our first meeting on Thursday, 26th April, went very well with the boys learning about paper recycling.

We discussed why recycling paper was so important and made frames out of recycled timber and fly screen in anticipation of paper making next week. The boys had lots of fun nailing the corners together!

Next week we may get a little messy, so you may want to send work clothes to school with your son. Boys in uniform will be wearing art smocks in anycase.

I hope the boys enjoyed themselves today. Please let me know if there were any problems.

In Term 2 at Grammar Junior, we will be starting an Environment Club. Meetings will be held on Thursday afternoons from 3.15pm to 4.15pm.

We have some great ideas for the club, including encouraging a ’binless school’ concept (only collecting biodegradable and recyclable waste from lunch), introducing worm farms for food waste and a veggie patch.

Boys from Reception to Yr 4 are encouraged to join by completing the membership form – the form will ensure that the members are interested in the club as well as gauge an idea of the boys’ environmental interests and concerns. Places are limited in Term 2, so we encourage parents to please read what we envisage the club to do to make sure your son will be interested.

Jeanette Morgan (Reception teacher) and Elizabeth Ure (Toowoomba Grammar Junior parent) will be running the club.
